progress

Here is this weeks progress. All but two rafters are up on the first floor. Next, the floor joists for the second floor (which will come up from the smaller inner circle).

All the blue stuff is insulation that is a part of the living roof.

  1. you mention living roof…is the roof going to have plants on it (moss, grass…etc)?

  2. you mention living roof…is the roof going to have plants on it (moss, grass…etc)? Is there an underlying benefit to having live plants on the roof…like extra insulation, perhaps?

  3. Yes, definitely insulation (noise and air), but also putting back some of our carbon footprint since the plants help to process the carbon in the air and add oxygen. If taken care of, it can last as long, or longer than a top quality asphalt roof, without the toxins. Plus, it does not attract the heat of the sun, like a shingled roof would, so it keeps the house cooler in the summer. I know there are more benefits that this, but that’s what pops into my head first :-)

Oh, and most of the plants will be sedum.
